We added a low open
fence to this front yard. It lends structure to the garden, and helps
differentiate between a low, "gift to the street" bed on the curb side,
and a fuller perennial bed on the interior side.
The client wanted to
retain some turf as a play area for her two young boys. She also loves hot colored ray flowers, and did not mind some winter down time as long as spring and
summer would be a blaze of color. The color show starts in early spring, when
the sunroses in the curb side bed bloom in succession. It continues through
summer when the gaillardia, coreopsis, and dwarf day lilies take over in the
interior beds.
