The owners of this
property both appreciate Santa Barbara garden style with its liberal use of
bold forms and saturated colors. We decided to use lots of succulents, some
colorful perennials, a citrus in a big pot, and a cold tolerant Japanese banana.
An existing enormous Bird of Paradise was reduced to a few clumps, that now
flourish in a pot in the courtyard.
The back yard has a
patio and play structure, but no turf. We decided to retain a portion of the small
front yard in turf as a play area for the couple's young children.
